Tags
Tags are how Gero organizes and categorizes your content. They power the filtering, searching, and browsing experience across your entire library.
Automatic tagging
When you import a video, Gero automatically extracts tags from:
- The source page — Tags, categories, and metadata from the original website (RedGifs, PornHub, YouTube, etc.)
- The video title — Gero compares the video name against all existing tags in your database
- Tag aliases — Alternative names you've defined for tags are also matched
This means your library organizes itself as it grows. The more tags you have, the smarter auto-tagging becomes.
Manual tags
You can always add or remove tags manually on any video or fragment. Tags are stored in lowercase and automatically deduplicated.
Tag groups
Tag groups let you organize related tags into categories. For example:
| Group | Example tags |
|---|---|
| Actions | kiss, dance, run |
| Locations | beach, office, outdoor |
| Mood | romantic, intense, chill |
Groups have a display order so you can control how they appear in the UI. Each tag can belong to one group.
Aliases
Tags support aliases — alternative names that map to the same tag. For example, the tag compilatioon could have aliases like compilations or comps.
When Gero auto-tags a video, it checks both the tag name and all aliases for matches. This helps catch different naming conventions across sources.
You can set aliases as a comma-separated list when editing a tag.
Verified tags
Tags can be marked as verified to indicate they are curated and trustworthy. This is useful when your library has hundreds of auto-generated tags and you want to distinguish the ones you've personally reviewed.
Tag-based filtering
Tags are used throughout the app for filtering:
- Video library — Filter by one or more tags
- Theater mode — Browse content matching specific tags
- Media subscriptions — Auto-apply tags to downloaded content
- Arcade games — Select content for games based on tags
- Fragments — Tags are inherited from parent videos or added individually
