Game bundles
Game bundles are packaged collections of arcade game levels that you can import and play immediately — no setup required.
Instead of building levels from scratch, you import a bundle and Gero takes care of the rest: creating the levels, setting up the tags, linking actors, and configuring the media subscriptions that feed content into the games.
What's inside a bundle?
A bundle is a single JSON file that contains everything needed to get playing:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Bundle info | Name and description of the bundle |
| Game levels | One or more fully configured levels — with all questions, answers, point values, settings, and challenges |
| Tags | The tags that the levels use to filter video content |
| Actors | The actors referenced in level filters |
| Media subscriptions | Source URLs that Gero can subscribe to, so the right content starts downloading automatically |
Bundles are portable — they use names and URLs instead of internal IDs, so they work across any Gero installation.
Importing a bundle
Importing is a two-step process: preview first, then confirm.
Step 1: Preview
When you upload a bundle file, Gero shows you exactly what will happen before anything is created:
- Tags — Which tags will be created, and which already exist in your library
- Actors — Which actors will be created, and which already exist
- Media subscriptions — Which subscriptions will be set up to start downloading content
- Game levels — Which levels will be created, including their game type
Items that already exist in your library are matched automatically (case-insensitive), so you won't get duplicates.
Step 2: Confirm
After reviewing the preview, confirm the import. Gero then:
- Creates any missing tags and actors
- Sets up media subscriptions so content starts downloading
- Creates the game levels with all their configurations
- Creates the bundle linking everything together
You can start playing as soon as enough content is available in your library. The media subscriptions keep running in the background to bring in more content over time.
Creating your own bundles
You can create and share your own bundles:
- Build game levels — Use the level editor to create levels for any arcade game
- Create a bundle — Give it a name and description
- Add your levels — Pick which levels to include and set their order
- Export — Download the bundle as a JSON file
- Share — Send the file to anyone with Gero — they can import it directly
When you export, Gero automatically converts all internal references (tag IDs, actor IDs, subscription IDs) into portable names and URLs, so the bundle works on any installation.
Supported game types
Bundles can contain levels for any arcade game:
| Game | Description |
|---|---|
| QuizTime | Multiple-choice quiz with video backgrounds |
| Find the Clip | Identify the correct video clip |
| Follow the Beat | Rhythm game synced to music |
| Tell Me a Story | Narrative game with text and audio |
A single bundle can mix levels from different game types.
Monthly bundles for Legend patrons
Legend-tier Patreon subscribers receive new pre-made game bundles every month — curated and ready to play. Each bundle includes matching media subscriptions, so your library automatically fills up with the right content.
This is the easiest way to get started with the arcade — just import a bundle and play.
